Dronley Wood is home to lots of squirrels. if you are lucky you may see them effortlessly jumping from one canopy to another. Dronley wood is ideal habitat for squirrels, with lots of mature conifers and several squirrel feeders.

Squirrel dreys
You can probably spot the squirrel dreys in the tree crowns. They build a main drey as well as dreys for sleeping and playing. Red squirrels are active during the day feeding on nuts, seeds, fruits, berries, fungi, eggs, etc.
Threats to Squirrels
The main threat for Red Squirrels is the Grey Squirrel. Grey Squirrels outcompete Red Squirrels for food and territory and carry a disease called the squirrel pox which is very dangerous for Red Squirrels. Thankfully, there are no Grey Squirrels at Dronley Wood. The main threat for Grey Squirrels is the Pine Marten some of which have been spotted at Dronley Wood. They help to control the Grey Squirrels.
