About This Stand

01

Sitka Spruce

The Sitka Spruce has reached an astonishing dimension in a relatively short time. The stand (Sitka Spruce and Douglas Fir) was planted in 1971. The soil in this stand has been mapped as imperfectly drained brown forest soil (Soil Series Balrownie).

02

Frame Trees

The tree has a diameter of 91 cm (measured 1,30 m above ground- in 2023). The height of the tree is 30 m. The calculated total timber volume is almost 7 m3 . Unfortunately, the tree's timber quality is relatively low. The tree has grown huge branches and tapers a lot. Branches are weak points in the timber. It is essential to prune the best trees within the stand to a height of 8-12 m at an early age. Imagine what the tree would look like would it have been pruned 40 years ago.
